Empowering Organizations and Leaders, While Unveiling Access and Opportunity
Since February 2000, Alexa Sorden has served as an educator in the New York City Department of Education. She has served as a classroom teacher, Literacy Coach, and Director of Achievement throughout her tenure, and for the past nine years, she has served as a principal. In 2013, Alexa founded Concourse Village Elementary School located in the South Bronx. The school serves 308 scholars in grades 3K-5th. Alexa has a strong passion and commitment to education; in particular, her goal is to bring quality and rigorous education to all children regardless of their zip code. In 2017, Alexa received the Ryan Award for Transformational Leadership. In 2018, under Alexa's leadership, Concourse Village received the National Blue Ribbon Award for exemplary performance. Then, in 2020, Alexa received the National Award for Equity and Excellence from the National Center for Urban Schools. Alexa is a graduate of Teachers College, Columbia University, and this past spring she earned her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from St. John’s University. Alexa and Concourse Village Elementary will be awarded an honorary CLN Primary School Accreditation in Human Flourishing, Language & Literacy, and Democracy at CLN's Inaugural Awards Gala on July 16, 2022, making Concourse Village Elementary the first CLN Accredited School, and Dr. Sorden the first CLN Credentialed School Leader in the Nation!
